Why Perform MAT Pilates Without a Reformer Machine?

  MAT Pilates refers to an exercise regime to strengthen and stretch the body, such as the core muscles spanning from the shoulders to the hips. Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s, it is deeply influenced by yoga, classic callisthenics and dance. The regular Pilates uses equipment such as the reformer, while MAT Pilates doesn’t require equipment. Instead, you adapt the moves according to your body, only using a yoga mat for support and cushioning. You’re free to practise mat Pilates in a fitness centre or studio that allows MAT Pilates. Last but not least, online classes and videos are equally efficient for practice.
