Things You Should Know Before Taking a Pilates Reformer Class

Pilates Reformer Class Australia

If you want to sign up for a Pilates reformer class, but are unsure about what to expect, you are not alone. Quite a few people believe that it will be an easy and slow workout, but they are wrong. Pilates classes are about using the entire body to improve flexibility, posture, and strength.

Reformer classes use one of the first Pilates equipment designed by Mr. Joseph Pilates – the Pilates Reformer. It looks like a simple wood bed frame with a carriage that slides. It uses a spring mechanism for creating resistance to make the workout more challenging.

Different springs mean different levels of resistance

At the start of your first class, the instructor will provide a thorough explanation of the Pilates reformer machine and each of its different parts. Talking of the spring, traditional machines have coloured springs – yellow, blue, and red. Each spring corresponds to a level of resistance; yellow being the least resistance, blue for medium, and red for heavy resistance. By adding or taking away springs, the exercises become more or less demanding.

Listen to the instructor

In a Pilates class, when using a reformer machine or an aero Pilates machine you can feel confused while placing hands and feet on the platform, using the handles, or changing resistance. It is especially true if you are a beginner. You will need to pay attention to the instructor to know the right resistance for you.

You will be getting a full-body workout

The Pilates reformer machine classes mean full-body workouts. You should not be surprised that it is not as easy as you may have initially believed it to be. Your core will be utilized fully, and you will feel it

There will be different props

When you use Pilates equipment like the reformer, do not be surprised if your instructor incorporates props like balls, magic circles, and even TheraBand. These props will help you improve your form.

Pilates reformer classes are great workouts. For a beginner, it may be a little daunting. But, once you get to know the equipment and the exercises, you will learn that the classes can be a lot of fun, too.

Select a reputed pilates class and listen to your instructor for the best outcomes.
